Funded by a Susan Harwood Training Grant through the Department of Labor and Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA), the Brewers Association (BA) has developed a unique and free draught line cleaning safety course for adjacent workers. The BA recognizes that worker risks associated with draught line cleaning extend beyond line cleaning operator, and that it is imperative to keep those working near cleaning operations informed and safe as well. While previous courses funded by this grant were developed for workers responsible for performing line cleaning operations, this training is tailored for front-of-house and draught beer service staff, brewery and retail workers, and any other persons whose work intersects with draught line cleaning operations.

Front-of-house staff is often left out of safety training, and this course is a great way to include them and give them the tools they need to grow their skills.

The online course is free to all professional brewers and industry workers. The only requirement is to self-enroll for access through the BA Online Brewery Safety Training portal. The course is offered 100% online and features a series of short on-demand videos and knowledge assessments. Students may complete the training over a 4-6 hour single sitting, or over multiple sessions to help accommodate the diverse needs and schedules of those working in the brewing industry. In addition to receiving a certificate of completion, students will learn how to control health and safety risks surrounding draught beer handling and cleaning, create a safer and healthier workplace, and foster a workplace culture that keeps everyone safe and able to go home at the end of the day.
