What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?
I’ve been using the titles President and Founding Brewer. I was a homebrewer throughout undergrad and grad school and got an opportunity to work at a local brewpub and decided this was the life for me!

What’s new at Lavery?
We just installed a Wild Goose canning line, three new tanks, a new chiller, and we also got an Anton Paar C-box…so a lot.

What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?
The people who make the beer…and the beer is a close second. I’m involved in guilds and non-profits at the local, state, and now federal levels. Brewers and craft beer people are the best.

Name a favorite food and beer pairing.
Orval and a ripe brie always hit the spot.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?
My family. My oldest is studying to be a lawyer, my middle son is interested in the brewing industry, and my youngest daughter wants to be a psychiatrist. My wife is a professor of Occupational Therapy at Gannon University.

What’s your favorite beer from another brewery?
I’m always excited to find Prima Pils from Victory Brewing on tap.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?
Travel! My wife and I are Euro-philes. Pre-COVID-19, we went to Europe every May.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?
Köln. I’ve always loved German culture, food, and especially beer. The beer culture of Köln is like no other place in the world.
